(Good Will Hunting)
Lawrence Bandar is the producer and Sue Armstrong, Jonathan Gordon, Bob Weinstein and Harvey Weinstein are the executive producers of the genius Will Hunting. Director of cinematography Jean-Youssef Schaefer, production director Melissa Stewart, art director James McAuthire, set designer Yarrow Dick and costume designer Aaronna Pasteur and Carrie Barden, Billy Hopkins and Susan Smith cast the cast.
Features of this film are improvisations that are freely injected into the dialogues of the script. The same gossip has doubled the value of the film, making Will’s brotherly relationship with friends Chuckie (Ben Affleck), Bailey (Cole Hauser), and Morgan (Casey Affleck), as well as the friendship between Will and Skylar, who is Harvard student, is spectacular.

The text of the analysis of the film Good Hunting Villa by Dr. Sargolzaei:
Will (played by Matt Damon) is a young genius with severe behavioral disorders that can be attributed to antisocial personality disorder. Will has been jailed several times for beatings and robberies, and this time he will be released on bail from a prominent university math professor. Because this professor of mathematics has discovered Will’s exceptional ingenuity in solving mathematical problems. It turns out that Will will receive a mandatory treatment sentence instead of a prison sentence, and will be treated under the supervision of a mental health professional, and if his treatment progresses, his prison sentence will be suspended, otherwise he will return to prison.
First, like most people with antisocial personalities, Will plays with his therapists, gives them false information, or makes fun of them, until the math professor remembers a classmate who is now a psychotherapist and has a common denominator With Will, he came from the south of town (poor neighborhood), like Will!
Goodwill Hunting’s film has two very strong educational aspects; First, it introduces defense mechanisms well.
The founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, first described the defense mechanism of “repression” in 1895 in a book on hysteria co-authored with Joseph Breuer. In this book, Winnie’s two physicians record the histories of patients undergoing psychoanalytic treatment and show that patients with “hysteria” have untold stories and that the “subconscious” with their symptoms are repeatedly narrating those repressed stories non-verbally. After Freud, his daughter Anna Freud, who had become like a psychoanalytic father, described a number of defense mechanisms.
One of these defense mechanisms is “reversal”. In this type of psychological defense, the person plays an inverted role to hide the story that caused him / her severe damage, for example, if the story frightens him / her, he / she tries to hide his / her story with too much courage and hatred. This is what Will’s psychotherapist discovers.
Will was a battered child who was repeatedly beaten and intimidated by an alcoholic father, and now tries to hide his wounded and frightened child from himself and others with “reversal” and “aggressive imitation” defense mechanisms.
Another educational aspect of this film is the beautiful image that shows the “humanistic therapies”, therapies that consider honesty and straightforwardness as the most important feature of the therapeutic relationship.
In humanistic therapy, the therapist becomes a model of honesty and originality, he does not play a role and is transparent and honest, and the therapist begins to “eject” in the subconscious identification with this “parent”.
The most important historical speakers of the humanist movement in psychotherapy, in my opinion, are Carl Gustav Jung, Franz Alexander, Carl Rogers, and Rolumi, and Erwin Yalom, the American psychiatrist, is currently the flagship of this movement.
Most of Yalom’s books have been translated into Persian, among which the books “Mom and the Meaning of Life”, “Schopenhauer Treatment” and “Lying on the Sofa” better express the importance of the therapist’s “originality” in therapeutic relationship.
Maybe reading Yalom books and watching Goodwill Hunting can be like a humanistic psychotherapy internship for psychology students. In addition to its psychological educational aspects, Goodwill Hunting’s film also has a strong sociological aspect. The film critiques the so-called modern industrial society, a society in which career success becomes so important that moral principles are sacrificed to achieve it, and man, as Karl Marx, the prominent German philosopher, puts it, suffers from “depersonalization.”
Such a person has no identity other than a job identity and becomes a machine that has no function other than the program for which the programmers have written, this person lacks creativity and courage. And he becomes compromising and conservative, he never protests and rebels, and as a child he obeys the orders of the institutions of power of society! You will definitely enjoy watching the well-made and informative Goodwill Hunting movie.
