Interview with “Dr. Mohammad Reza Sargolzaei”, the correspondent of Hamshahri Weekly, Six and Seven, second part, 2013
Question: It is true that writers, psychologists, sociologists, and intellectuals in general are responsible for this collective and historical psychoanalysis, but part of this process (psychoanalysis) is also the responsibility of the people themselves. This means that people should also refer to their own collective psyche and recognize its harmful aspects. When do you think the collective psyche rereads itself?
Answer: Every historical period can be studied and analyzed completely correctly and transparently when its life and time have passed. So in this field (collective psychoanalysis) we are always delayed. People can realize the mistakes of their youth as they get older. This is true, but at the same time, there are some things that we are witnessing in the current situation, and incidentally, the cause or causes are also present. For example, a teenager 15 years ago is different from a teenager today. So we have to focus on what has happened today in the field of media or our economic, social and educational mechanisms in these 15 years that have affected the behavioural characteristics or character of today’s adolescents. Such issues are so tangible that they can be easily approached and get some action upon.
QUESTION: There are many times when parents say that we participate in the Parent-Teacher Association and we happen to be active, that is, we criticize and protest fairly, but we do not get any results. For this reason, we prefer not to attend meetings or, if we do, to remain silent!
Answer: Our view of this social action should not be black and white, that is, it should not be such that we say, for example, we can or we can not. Sometimes we can 10%; The same 10% ability can sometimes save a number of individuals and families.
What we usually encounter is that when we look at the social pyramid and find ourselves at the bottom of the pyramid, we think that our force does not reach anything or anyone. That is why we tell ourselves that entering social institutions certainly has no effect. I remember one day when I was a psychiatric resident talking to one of my professors about my interest in “social psychology.”
The professor replied:
Which one of social institutions can you reach out to and change ?!
However, I still believe that change can be made with a little participation in social institutions. So we should not define change as 100% for ourselves. It is better to define change as 20%. Therefore, parents who participate in the Parent-Teacher Association may not be able to change the rules of the final exam, such as the final exam, but they can at least stop teachers to put so much pressure on the children in the same school to compete with each other to pass the Talented Test. This will help many children to get rid of stress and anxiety and their creativity will flourish.
It is good to point out that one of the things that makes us break the habit and reach rationality in the sense of self-scrutiny is free media in a society. Free media is like a clear mirror that shows the image well. If the mirror is such that it makes the image distorted or even large, this can not be a real image. The media can also in-still in a sick society that you are healthy and have no problems. This wrong and inverted image of society causes that society to never think of reforming itself and always thinking that it is in the highest degree of health. Healthy media is a sign of a healthy self-awareness of a society.
